Kamala Expends Her Lead?

As Election Day rapidly approaches, a recent poll has revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris has expanded her lead over former President Donald Trump in Virginia. The Institute for Policy and Opinion Research (IPOR) at Roanoke College conducted this survey, which shows Harris ahead by a notable 10 points, securing 51% of likely voters’ support compared to Trump’s 41%.

In this poll, independent candidate Cornel West and Libertarian Chase Oliver each garnered 2% of the vote, while Green Party’s Jill Stein received 1%. Additionally, 2% of respondents were undecided, and another 2% indicated they would consider other candidates.

Economic concerns emerged as the top priority for Virginia voters, with 43% identifying it as the most critical issue. Abortion followed closely at 20%, while immigration was cited by 12%. Foreign affairs garnered 8% of the responses, and crime was seen as a priority by only 3%.

Interestingly, voters expressed a higher level of trust in Harris regarding crime and foreign policy, favoring her 49% to Trump’s 45%. However, Trump was preferred on economic issues, with a narrow lead of 49% to 46%. On immigration, both candidates were tied at 48%. Notably, Harris had a significant advantage on the abortion issue, leading Trump 57% to 36%.

Perceptions of empathy also played a crucial role; 46% of respondents believed that Harris understands and cares about people like them, outpacing Trump by nearly 10 points, who garnered 37%.

This trend aligns with a previous Washington Post/Schar School poll, which had Harris leading by 6 points. The latest The Hill/Decision Desk HQ tally confirms Harris’s consistent advantage in Virginia, now at 5 points, with 50% to Trump’s 45%. Conducted from October 25 to 29 among 851 likely registered voters, this survey has a margin of error of 4.6%. As we head towards the final days of the campaign, the implications of these findings will be closely watched by both parties.
