White House Trolls Selena Gomez

The White House recently countered Selena Gomez’s emotional video about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids with one of their own, featuring mothers whose children were killed by illegal immigrants. The 1-minute, 27-second video directly rebukes the actress over her tearful Instagram post, where she voiced concern over the surge in ICE enforcement and the ongoing border crackdown under the Biden administration.

Tammy Nobles, one of the mothers featured in the video, pointed out the stark contrast between Gomez’s sorrow and the grief experienced by families like hers. Nobles’s daughter, Kayla, was murdered in 2022 by an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador. “You don’t know who you’re crying for,” Nobles stated, emphasizing the brutality faced by innocent Americans. She continued, “What about our children who were brutally murdered, raped, and beaten to death by these illegal immigrants?”

Selena Gomez’s video, which she later deleted, came after reports of ICE raids sweeping through various parts of the country, aiming to enforce stricter immigration laws and deport undocumented individuals. The actress, who has over 422 million followers on Instagram, tearfully expressed her confusion and distress over the situation: “I just want to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand… I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Gomez’s emotional outcry did not go unnoticed by critics, particularly on the right. Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) sharply criticized the actress, calling her tears a “PR stunt” designed to distract from the backlash surrounding her role in the movie Emilia Pérez. Meanwhile, Geraldo Rivera defended Gomez, calling her compassion “commendable.”

However, mothers like Alexis Nungaray, whose 12-year-old daughter was killed last year, voiced skepticism about Gomez’s sincerity. “It’s hard to believe that it’s genuine,” Nungaray said, questioning the actress’s motives. Patty Morin, who lost her daughter in 2023, echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Gomez’s message was merely a way to garner sympathy for illegal immigration.

President Trump, who has consistently campaigned on toughening immigration policies, has made significant moves to curb illegal immigration, including ordering ICE raids and deploying troops to the southern border. He also signed an executive order creating a massive 30,000-person migrant facility at Guantánamo Bay to facilitate deportations.

As these debates continue to unfold, the voices of the victims and their families remain central to the conversation. “No one has stood up for us except for us mothers to cry about our children,” Morin said, acknowledging the lack of support for American families affected by illegal immigration. Alexis Nungaray added, “I truly appreciate everything Donald Trump has done.” Their poignant statements stand in stark contrast to the celebrity-driven narratives about immigration, focusing on the real consequences of unchecked illegal immigration on American communities.
