Democrats Smear Trump Again
Washington, D.C. — Another day, another wild accusation from the Left.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), one of President Trump’s loudest critics, is now claiming that the 45th President is trying to turn America into a “totalitarian state.”
During a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Murphy alleged that President Trump is “refusing to negotiate” during the ongoing government shutdown because he supposedly enjoys having “king-like powers.”
“He likes that the government is closed,” Murphy claimed. “He thinks he can pick and choose what stays open and pay the employees who are loyal to him.”
Murphy went on to accuse Trump of working “with his oligarch friends” and of trying to “transition our democracy into a totalitarian regime.”
The Connecticut Democrat also criticized a reported $130 million private contribution that helped cover U.S. troop pay during the shutdown — a gesture many conservatives viewed as a patriotic show of support for America’s military. Murphy dismissed the move as “dangerous,” arguing that he doesn’t want “Donald Trump and a small group of wealthy donors deciding which parts of government operate.”
White House Response: ‘Murphy Is a Buffoon Who Lies to the American People’
The White House wasted no time firing back, calling Murphy’s remarks “pathetic and dishonest.”
“Here’s the truth: President Trump wants the government open,” said White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson in a statement to The Hill. “Democrats could vote to reopen it anytime they want. But they’ve chosen to use struggling American families as leverage for their radical left agenda. It’s sick.”
Jackson also slammed Murphy for spreading what she described as “fear-mongering nonsense” to distract from the Democratic Party’s refusal to negotiate in good faith.
Conservatives Say: Democrats Are Desperate for Attention
Political observers note that Murphy’s latest outburst is part of a larger strategy by Democrats to paint Trump as a dictator — a claim that’s fallen flat time and again.
“Every time President Trump takes decisive action, Democrats scream ‘authoritarianism,’” said one conservative commentator. “But what’s really happening is simple: Trump is doing his job, protecting American workers, and standing up for taxpayers.”
