Republicans Vow To Defund Who?
According to the statements made by Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, he strongly believes that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been marred by corruption and advocates for a transition towards a “single-rate” taxation system, going so far as to express his willingness to discard the current system entirely.
According to Newsmax, during an interview on “The Dana Show” podcast, Governor Ron DeSantis was asked whether he would support legislation to eliminate the IRS. His response indicated a resounding affirmation, stating that he perceives the IRS as a corrupt entity that does not prioritize the well-being of ordinary citizens or taxpayers. Governor DeSantis emphasized the necessity for a complete overhaul and the implementation of a fundamentally different system.
When questioned about the possibility of adopting a “fair tax” or a “flat tax” as an alternative to the existing IRS taxation system, Governor DeSantis expressed his belief that such an approach could offer a viable path forward. He acknowledged the potential merits of implementing a tax system characterized by fairness and simplicity, suggesting that it could be a favorable solution to consider.
“I’ve supported all of the single-rate proposals, I think they would be a huge improvement over the current system,” DeSantis explained. “And I would be welcoming to take this tax system, chuck it out the window, and do something that’s more favorable to the average folks.”
Governor DeSantis strongly criticized the expansion of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed by the Biden administration, which aimed to add 87,000 new agents. He characterized this move as a disrespectful gesture, referring to it as a “middle finger to the American public.” Governor DeSantis expressed his disapproval of the increased IRS presence, implying that it was an unwarranted intrusion into the lives of American citizens.
