Democrat Governor Calls Trump Deranged, You Agree?

Democrat Under Investigation

Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Maryland, is under scrutiny for allegedly misusing tax exemptions that were not intended for her, resulting in substantial savings on her properties in Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

Recent reports indicate that between 2005 and 2017, Alsobrooks benefited from nearly $14,000 in tax breaks on her Washington property. These exemptions are designed for primary residents, low-income individuals, and senior citizens, categories that Alsobrooks does not fit. Despite claiming a homestead exemption for over a decade, public records reveal she has been registered to vote in Prince George’s County, Maryland, since 1995 and does not primarily reside in D.C.

In addition to the homestead exemption, Alsobrooks received a tax break meant for low-income seniors, which cut her tax burden in half. At 53 years old, she does not qualify for this break herself, although her grandparents—previous owners of the property—likely did. Alsobrooks’ senior adviser stated she was unaware of these tax credits and is currently working with local authorities to address the situation.

In Maryland, she purchased a property in 2005 and claimed a homestead exemption starting in 2008. However, after renting the townhouse, she continued to apply the exemption meant for primary residences, a move that CNN estimates saved her at least $2,600. Her campaign argues that when she purchased a new home, the exemption did not transfer, meaning she paid more taxes overall, but she remains committed to rectifying any discrepancies.

Alsobrooks is up against former Republican Governor Larry Hogan in the race for the Senate seat vacated by retiring Senator Ben Cardin. Polls show a close race, with Alsobrooks leading Hogan by just five points. Hogan is positioning himself as a moderate alternative in a predominantly Democratic state, while Alsobrooks has labeled him a “MAGA” supporter, suggesting he would enable Republican control of the Senate.

With Maryland voters leaning toward Vice President Kamala Harris over Donald Trump by a wide margin, the race is heating up as both candidates vie for crucial support in this pivotal election.
