Is Biden Copying Trump's Campaign Strategies?

Liz Cheney Threatens Supreme Court

Who does she think she is?

Former Representative Liz Cheney delivered a stark cautionary message to the United States Supreme Court regarding its forthcoming deliberations on former President Donald Trump’s assertions of presidential immunity.

Scheduled for April 25, the Supreme Court is set to weigh Trump’s claims of immunity against allegations brought forth by the Department of Justice (DOJ), accusing him of orchestrating efforts to subvert the 2020 election outcome.

In response to the DOJ’s charges last year, Trump, maintaining his innocence, asserts that his actions were within the scope of his presidential duties and thus shielded by immunity. However, critics argue that Trump was operating more as a political candidate rather than a duly-elected official.

Cheney, once a stalwart figure within the Republican Party who later emerged as a vocal critic of Trump post-January 6, emphasized the urgency of the Supreme Court’s handling of the case during her speech at Drake University’s Annual Bucksbaum Distinguished Lectureship.

Expressing concern over what she perceives as Trump’s attempt to employ legal maneuvers as stalling tactics, Cheney underscored the gravity of the situation. She emphasized the principle that no president should be immune from facing legal consequences, particularly in the context of attempting to overturn election results and seize power.

Asserting her trust in the court’s ability to address the matter promptly and responsibly, Cheney nonetheless stressed the importance of avoiding any actions that would further delay the public’s access to evidence. She emphasized the necessity for transparency, insisting that the American people have the right to scrutinize the evidence.

The video recording of Cheney’s remarks, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Republican Voters Against Trump, garnered significant attention, amassing over 150,000 views by Thursday morning.

Cheney, who represented Wyoming’s At-Large Congressional District from 2017 to 2023, gained national prominence after being one of the few Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching Trump following the events of January 6. Despite her principled stance, she faced backlash within her own party and ultimately lost her seat in the 2022 GOP primary to a Trump-backed candidate, Harriet Hageman. Cheney continues to be a vocal critic of Trump’s influence within the Republican Party.
