Should Only Americans Be Allowed To Vote In Elections?

CNN Predicts A Sweep?

As we approach the presidential election, insights from CNN’s Harry Enten suggest that a sweep of key battleground states may be “more likely than not.” This comes as polls reveal a nearly even race between Vice President Harris and former President Trump across seven crucial swing states.

Enten, a senior political data reporter for CNN, explained that his electoral model predicts a 60 percent chance for the winning candidate to achieve at least 300 electoral votes. This indicates that, while the election is expected to be close, one candidate may still secure a significant advantage in the Electoral College.

Current polling data shows a tight contest, with neither candidate holding a lead of more than two points in any of these critical states. If Harris and Trump each win a few of these states, they would barely surpass the 270 electoral votes necessary for victory. However, winning a majority could allow one candidate to exceed the 300-vote threshold, resulting in a more comfortable margin of victory.

Enten pointed out a historical trend: the average polling error in these swing states has been around 3.4 percentage points since 1972. This suggests that if polls underestimate one candidate, they might do so across the board, allowing for a surprising sweep of states. In past elections, polling has often failed to capture the true sentiment of voters, with candidates like Obama in 2012 and Trump in both 2016 and 2020 exceeding expectations.

Despite the likelihood of a close race, the landscape of presidential elections has changed. In 2020, President Biden won six of seven battleground states, but the margins were extremely narrow. It’s noteworthy that since George H.W. Bush’s decisive victory in 1988, where he garnered over 400 electoral votes, true landslide wins have been rare.

As Republican voters prepare for the upcoming election, staying informed and engaged is crucial. The outcome in these battleground states could be pivotal, underscoring the importance of every single vote in shaping the future of our nation.
