Speaker Johnson Demands For More Trump Security

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has underscored the critical need for heightened security measures for former President Donald Trump, following a disturbing second assassination attempt against him. Johnson, who was en route to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate with his wife, expressed profound relief that Trump emerged unharmed from this latest threat. He emphasized that Trump requires an unparalleled level of protection, given the escalating nature of threats against him.

In an interview with Fox News’s Fox and Friends, Johnson asserted, “President Trump needs the highest level of security. He’s facing more threats now than even during his time in the White House. In Congress, we are insisting that he receive every possible resource for his protection, and we are prepared to allocate additional resources if needed. This isn’t just a matter of funding but also of strategically deploying manpower.”

Johnson commended Trump for his remarkable strength and resilience in the face of continuous danger, and he expressed gratitude for what he believes is divine intervention in keeping Trump safe. He drew a historical parallel, noting that Trump’s ordeal echoes the times of President George Washington, who survived multiple assassination attempts during his military service. Johnson pointed out that this latest attack occurred less than 50 miles from Trump’s previous assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, highlighting the persistent threats against the former president.

In response to the recent attack, President Joe Biden has called for an evaluation of Secret Service resources, suggesting that Congress needs to review and potentially bolster the agency’s capabilities. Biden emphasized that the Secret Service would determine the need for additional personnel.

The individual apprehended in connection with this latest attempt has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh. Authorities reported that Routh was found hiding near Trump’s residence, armed with an AK-47-style rifle, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks containing ceramic tiles. After fleeing the scene, he was eventually captured on I-95 in Martin County, thanks to a witness’s alert.
