Trump means business when he says America First.
President Donald Trump has once again delivered on his promise to put America First, overturning a controversial Biden-era immigration policy that gave migrants automatic work permit extensions — a policy critics say opened the door to national security threats and crime.
Trump Ends Biden’s 540-Day Migrant Work Permit Extension
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Wednesday that it will end Biden’s 540-day automatic renewal policy for migrant work permits.
Under the new Trump administration rule, the grace period for renewing Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) will return to 180 days, restoring stricter vetting standards that were loosened under President Biden.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the Biden policy “compromised public safety and national security,” allowing potentially dangerous individuals to remain in the country without full background checks.
“It’s time we stop putting the convenience of illegal migrants ahead of the safety of the American people,” Noem said.
Attack by Migrant Sparks National Security Concerns
The move comes after a shocking terror-style attack in Boulder, Colorado, earlier this year.
An Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who entered the U.S. under Biden’s open-border era and received an extended work permit, firebombed peaceful demonstrators during a Jewish event supporting Israeli hostages.
“The alien threw Molotov cocktails that burned multiple victims and injured 15 people,” Noem wrote in the new rule, calling it “a wake-up call for America’s immigration system.”
Soliman had overstayed his visa, applied for asylum, and benefited from Biden’s 540-day work permit extension while his application remained pending. He was later charged with 118 criminal counts by state prosecutors.
Trump Restores ‘America First’ Vetting Standards
The Trump administration says this policy change is about protecting American workers and families from the chaos caused by Biden’s lax enforcement.
In fiscal year 2024, over 1.3 million non-citizens had their work permits renewed — many through Biden’s automatic extension system.
A DHS spokesperson said, “Now we are focusing on those who have no right to work here.”
USCIS Director Joseph Edlow added:
“This is a commonsense measure. Working in the United States is a privilege, not a right. We are restoring robust screening to protect Americans first.”
Biden’s “Open Door” Policy Officially Over
President Biden’s December 2024 policy not only extended the grace period to 540 days but also expanded eligibility to asylum seekers, refugees, and foreign spouses of visa holders.
The Trump administration has now scrapped both expansions, signaling a complete end to Biden’s “rubber stamp” work permit policy.
Employers are being advised to review their payrolls immediately, as thousands of migrant workers may lose authorization to work under the new rule starting October 30.
Americans Applaud Trump’s Crackdown
For millions of Americans frustrated by rising crime, border chaos, and lost job opportunities, this decision is seen as another strong stand for law and order.
“President Trump is finally undoing the damage Biden did,” said one veteran advocate in Texas. “It’s about time someone put the safety of Americans ahead of illegal immigrants.”
Conservatives have praised the move as a return to sanity, ensuring that national security comes before political correctness or globalist interests.
Bottom Line
Trump’s latest immigration reform is a decisive victory for border security, American jobs, and common sense governance.
By tearing up Biden’s reckless 540-day work permit loophole, the Trump administration is making it clear once again:
America’s laws are for Americans first.
