Hunter Biden is suddenly fueling speculation about whether another member of the Biden family could make a run for the White House.
The son of former President Joe Biden suggested during an interview with billionaire businessman and radio host John Catsimatidis that he could potentially consider running for president in 2028.
“If I get your endorsement, I may have to,” Biden told Catsimatidis while discussing the possibility.
The comment was not a formal campaign announcement, and Biden did not say that he has begun preparing a presidential bid. But even raising the possibility is notable considering his family’s long history in American politics and the controversies that have followed him for years.
Hunter Biden Raises the Possibility of a 2028 Run
During the interview, Biden pointed to America’s addiction crisis as one of the issues he cares deeply about.
The subject is personal for Biden, who has publicly discussed his own lengthy struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.
He said he remains concerned about the tens of millions of Americans dealing with addiction and its consequences.
Whether that concern eventually translates into a political campaign remains unknown. For now, Biden appears to be leaving his options open rather than committing to a run.
Biden Says the Constitution and Rule of Law Matter
Biden also discussed what he believes should be expected of the next president.
He emphasized adherence to the Constitution and argued that America’s next commander in chief should make respecting the rule of law a central commitment.
That declaration could receive particular attention because Biden himself has an extensive legal history.
He was convicted in 2024 on three federal felony gun charges and later pleaded guilty to federal tax charges. Before leaving the White House, President Joe Biden pardoned his son.
The pardon became a major political controversy, particularly because the former president had previously said publicly that he would not pardon Hunter.

Any serious Hunter Biden presidential campaign would almost certainly bring renewed attention to controversies that followed the Biden family for years.
Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings became the subject of congressional investigations and extensive political debate. Republicans investigated whether Joe Biden improperly participated in or benefited from his son’s business activities, allegations the former president denied.
Hunter Biden’s laptop also became a major issue during the 2020 presidential election after material from the device was published publicly.
Some of that material later became relevant to federal investigations and court proceedings involving Hunter Biden.
If he entered the 2028 presidential race, those controversies would likely return to the national spotlight.
Hunter Biden Previously Dismissed the Idea
His latest remarks are particularly noteworthy because Biden previously sounded much less interested in becoming a candidate.
During an appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Biden joked about the possibility of running for president and indicated that a White House campaign wasn’t something he was seriously contemplating.
His latest comments don’t amount to an announcement, but they leave considerably more room for speculation.
Democrats Already Have Several Possible 2028 Contenders
Hunter Biden also made clear that he believes Democrats have plenty of other potential candidates.
He praised the party’s political “bench” and spoke positively about several prominent Democrats who have attracted attention as possible future presidential contenders.
Among them was California Gov. Gavin Newsom, whom Biden said he personally likes.
With the 2028 presidential election still more than two years away, the field remains unsettled, and many politicians frequently mentioned as potential candidates have not formally declared campaigns.
Could America Really See Another Biden Presidential Campaign?
For now, the answer remains uncertain.
Hunter Biden has not announced that he is running for president in 2028. There is no formal Hunter Biden presidential campaign, and his remarks to Catsimatidis stopped well short of declaring his candidacy.
Still, merely raising the possibility is enough to generate attention.
Joe Biden spent decades in Washington before eventually winning the presidency in 2020. His son’s path has been dramatically different, dominated by business controversies, addiction struggles, criminal cases and intense political scrutiny.
That would make a Hunter Biden presidential campaign unlike virtually any other modern White House bid.
Whether his latest comment was simply a lighthearted exchange or the first indication that Biden is genuinely considering a future in politics remains to be seen.
