Former Attorney General Bill Barr countered the notion that the legal challenges faced by ex-President Trump would disrupt the 2024 election, labeling such beliefs as “incorrect.”
“In our justice system, high-profile individuals aren’t shielded from legal consequences just because they’re pursuing a political position,” Barr commented on Fox News’s “America Reports.” He added, “If there’s ample time to settle it before the election, then it should be settled.”
Barr was presented with a segment featuring GOP presidential hopeful and Trump critic, Chris Christie. Christie had earlier remarked that Trump’s actions and his determination to run again are what truly disrupt the primary process. Barr concurred with Christie’s viewpoint, dismissing the interference claims as “nonsensical.”
Barr illustrated his point, saying, “Imagine a mayor, facing serious embezzlement charges, requesting a pause on his trial because he’s nearing an election. It’s absurd.” It’s worth noting that while Barr was a part of Trump’s administration, he later distanced himself by refuting Trump’s allegations of election misconduct.
