Democrats Terrified Of President Trump’s Popularity

Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, addressed the question about President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump being closely tied in the polls ahead of the 2024 presidential election, despite Trump facing a third indictment recently.

According to the Washington Examiner, recent polling data found that both Trump and Biden received 43% support in a general election face-off. However, Raskin then attempted to slander Republicans and expressed concern about the transformation of the GOP, which was historically pro-freedom, anti-slavery, anti-nothing, and pro-immigration, into what he perceives as a cult of authoritarian personality. He pointed out that even the Republicans running against Trump are hesitant to challenge his betrayals of the Constitutional oath.

Raskin specifically discussed Trump’s actions between the 2020 election and the Capitol protest on January 6, stating that Trump must have known that his claims of electoral fraud and corruption had been rejected by 60 federal and state courts. He used an analogy to explain that believing one is owed money by a bank does not justify robbing the bank.

Trump faces four counts in his latest indictment, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. Trump pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and described the indictment as “persecution of a political opponent.”

In a recent poll, 69% of Republican voters believe that Trump is the strongest nominee to compete with Biden in the 2024 presidential election, with 45% voting “definitely strongest” and 24% choosing “probably strongest.”
