Fox Says Trump Is Finished
Legal analysts on Fox & Friends Weekend expressed their views on the recent charges filed by the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) special counsel, Jack Smith, against former President Donald Trump. According to the analysts, the new indictment presents significant evidence concerning specific allegations. Allegedly, President Trump directed individuals working for him to destroy information sought by a subpoena, which goes beyond merely retaining the information. This new evidence is considered damaging to the defendant.
According to Newsweek, the updated indictment, filed by federal prosecutors on Thursday, includes fresh charges against the former president. He is accused of mishandling classified documents retrieved by the FBI from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, in August of the previous year, after he left the White House in January 2021. The court documents also mention Carlos De Oliveira, described as a property manager for Trump’s estate, who allegedly assisted Trump and his co-defendant, Walt Nauta (Trump’s personal aide and valet), in obstructing governmental efforts to retrieve the sensitive materials.
Trump had previously pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts in the initial indictment, which included 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, issued in June. He is expected to do the same with the three new charges. Similarly, Nauta has already pleaded not guilty to his charges.
The legal analysts also raised the possibility of De Oliveira becoming a witness for the prosecution against the former president, given his knowledge of the inner workings. They emphasized the significance of the new charges and their potential impact on the case.
In response to the charges, Trump has taken to his social media platform, Truth Social, to assert his innocence and deny any involvement in the deletion of Mar-a-Lago security tapes. He accused the DOJ, particularly Jack Smith, of misconduct and election interference.
