Americans Attacked For Celebrating July 4th

While the majority of the nation commemorated America’s Independence Day, certain individuals on the far-left expressed their disapproval of the holiday, perceiving it as a symbol of oppression.

According to Fox, Prominent progressive activist Bree Newsome Bass, known for her notable act of removing the Confederate flag from a monument at the South Carolina statehouse in 2015, took to Twitter to criticize America. She pointed out the misconception held by Americans that the country has consistently progressed towards granting equal rights to all since its establishment, stating that this belief fosters complacency as the Supreme Court allegedly replaces the constitution with their own agenda.

Newsome Bass also targeted those who waved the American flag on the 4th of July, labeling them either as enthusiastic white supremacists or as blissfully unaware individuals. She argued that the July 4th holiday holds no significance for the freedom of Black people, emphasizing that white Americans have historically celebrated the holiday even during times of slavery, Jim Crow laws, and what she perceives as the Supreme Court’s undermining of the 14th amendment.

Another member of the “Squad,” Representative Cori Bush from Missouri, expressed her frank opinion on the Founding Fathers through a tweet. She utilized the patriotic holiday as an opportunity to demand racial reparations, aiming to compensate for what she believes is the government’s historical mistreatment of Black Americans since the country’s inception.

Even self-proclaimed progressive ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s utilized the occasion to convey a divisive political message. Their official Twitter account called for recognition that the United States currently occupies Indigenous land, urging action towards its return. They shared a petition advocating for the restoration of Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills to the Lakota Sioux Native Americans.

Several young people, interviewed by The New York Times, shared their decision to forgo 4th of July celebrations this year, confessing their disillusionment with the patriotic holiday. They cited reasons such as the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, which have influenced their perception of America in a negative light.
