Kamala Lets Loose As America Burns
Kamala Harris, currently holding the lowest net approval rating for a vice president in the history of an NBC News poll (-17%), co-hosted a Pride Month event on Wednesday evening at her official residence in the National Observatory in Washington. The event was organized in collaboration with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and it featured Sasha Colby, the winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 15, as the emcee. Alex Newell, an actress and singer, performed Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” during the event, as reported by The Advocate.
According to Newsmax, in addition to Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, other notable speakers included GLAAD President Sarah Jane Ellis and Sam Charney, who spoke about gun violence prevention following the Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs in November. Representing Club Q were Nic Grzecka and Matthew Haynes. Harris shared four photos from the event on Friday, tweeting about the celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, the country’s promise, and the influential figures in the ongoing fight for equality.
Among the guests reported by The Advocate were TV personality Bobby Berke from “Queer Eye,” drag performer and social media influencer Pattie Gonia, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and Rachel Levine, the Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services.
During her speech, Harris emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community in America. She also highlighted the concerning reality of the current moment, with over 600 anti-LGBTQ+ bills proposed and over 70 already passed in the country.
