A senior Trump White House adviser is raising the prospect of a dramatic break between President Donald Trump and Fox News.
Peter Navarro is publicly questioning why Trump and members of his administration should continue appearing on the network, arguing that Fox has become increasingly hostile toward the president and his MAGA movement.
Navarro has not issued an order to Trump, and there is currently no announced White House ban preventing administration officials from appearing on Fox News.
But his remarks are significant because he is openly urging the administration to consider withholding some of its most valuable political guests from one of America’s largest cable news networks.
And the growing feud could have major implications for conservative viewers who have relied on Fox News for decades.
Navarro Questions Why Trump Officials Still Go On Fox
Navarro made his latest comments during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” on Real America’s Voice.
He questioned why the Trump administration should continue providing Fox News with interviews involving senior officials.
Navarro questioned why the administration continues providing Fox News with high-profile guests and allowing its officials to appear on the network.
Bannon pressed Navarro on whether he was suggesting that the administration stop sending officials onto Fox.
Navarro stopped short of formally demanding a boycott, but said the question deserved serious consideration.
“I’m calling for that question to be seriously asked,” Navarro said.
He then accused Fox of working against Trump’s administration.
“Fox has revealed itself to be essentially undermining the Trump administration,” Navarro said.
Navarro’s comments amount to a call for the White House to reconsider its relationship with Fox rather than an announcement that Trump or his officials have already been prohibited from appearing on the network.
Navarro Says Fox Could Be More Dangerous To MAGA
Navarro’s criticism went beyond disagreements over particular television programs.
He argued that Fox’s reputation among Republican voters is what makes the network especially important.
Unlike media organizations that openly attract more liberal audiences, Fox has spent decades building a large audience among Republicans and conservatives.
Navarro contends that this gives the network considerable credibility with Trump supporters.
Navarro argued that Fox News poses a greater threat to MAGA and the Republican Party because, in his view, the network presents itself as conservative while helping Trump’s political opponents weaken the president.
That represents Navarro’s assessment of the network. Fox News has not agreed with his characterization.

Maria Bartiromo Departure Fuels Fox News Feud
Navarro’s criticism intensified following the departure of longtime Fox Business personality Maria Bartiromo.
Fox News Media announced in early September that Bartiromo was no longer with the company after more than 12 years.
The network has described her departure as a business decision and has not publicly said that it resulted from her communications with Navarro. Bartiromo’s attorney has also disputed reports describing her departure as a firing.
But the circumstances surrounding her exit quickly became part of the larger dispute.
Navarro has said Bartiromo sent him information concerning internal Fox guidance related to coverage following a Trump address.
Navarro subsequently passed information from that communication to the White House.
He later acknowledged that White House officials contacted Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott regarding the matter.
Fox has not publicly established a connection between those events and Bartiromo’s departure.
Navarro, however, has argued that the episode demonstrates a much larger problem inside the network.
Navarro Warns Trump Supporters About Fox News
The White House adviser had already delivered a similar warning during a Sept. 9 appearance on Newsmax’s “Greg Kelly Reports.”
Navarro told viewers they should not automatically assume Fox News is politically aligned with Trump simply because much of the network’s audience is conservative.
Navarro argued that viewers should no longer assume Fox News is a conservative outlet that supports Trump or the MAGA movement.
He accused Fox executives of allowing coverage of certain conservative cultural issues while limiting subjects he considers more important to Trump’s political movement.
Navarro specifically criticized Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott.
He claimed viewers may receive conservative coverage on familiar culture-war subjects while management places restrictions around other issues associated with Trump’s agenda.
Those allegations remain Navarro’s interpretation of Fox’s editorial decisions.
Tucker Carlson And Lou Dobbs Enter The Argument
Navarro has also pointed to several prominent personalities who previously left Fox.
Among them are Tucker Carlson and the late Lou Dobbs.
Carlson’s highly rated Fox News program ended in 2023, while Fox Business canceled Dobbs’ program in 2021.
Navarro has grouped those departures together with Bartiromo’s exit as part of his argument that Fox is increasingly uncomfortable with personalities who strongly embrace Trump’s political agenda.
However, the circumstances surrounding the departures were different, and their exits alone do not establish Navarro’s broader claims about the network’s motives.
That distinction is important as the public dispute continues.
Fox And Trump Have A Complicated Relationship
Fox News and Trump have had an unusual relationship for years.
The network remains enormously influential among Republican voters, and Trump and members of his administration have frequently appeared on its programs.
At the same time, Trump and some of his allies have repeatedly criticized Fox when they believe its coverage is unfair or insufficiently supportive.
The latest dispute may represent something more consequential.
Instead of simply criticizing a particular anchor, story or editorial decision, Navarro is raising the possibility that the Trump administration could reconsider giving Fox access to senior officials.

Interviews with a sitting president, vice president, Cabinet secretary or senior White House official can generate major television ratings, online traffic and national headlines.
Removing or reducing that access could therefore change the relationship between Fox and the Trump administration.

Fox is also no longer the only major television destination competing for conservative viewers.
Networks and platforms including Newsmax and Real America’s Voice have increasingly competed for viewers who believe traditional media organizations — including Fox — do not adequately represent their political priorities.
Navarro himself has recently taken his criticism of Fox to those competing outlets.
His Sept. 9 comments appeared on Newsmax, while his latest remarks were made on Real America’s Voice.
That makes the dispute about more than one White House adviser criticizing one television network.
It also reflects the continuing competition for conservative viewers in an increasingly fragmented media environment.
Could Trump Stop Appearing On Fox News?
That is now the question Navarro has put on the table.
There has been no publicly announced order from Trump directing members of his administration to stop appearing on Fox News.
Navarro also did not announce such a policy.
Instead, he argued that the administration should seriously consider whether continuing to provide Fox with high-profile Trump officials makes sense.
That distinction matters.
Navarro is advocating for a possible change in strategy — not announcing that a Fox News boycott has already begun.
But the fact that such an idea is being discussed publicly by one of Trump’s senior advisers demonstrates how far tensions have escalated.

The next development may depend on President Trump himself.

Fox remains one of the biggest names in political television.
Trump remains the dominant figure in Republican politics.
And now one of Trump’s senior advisers is openly questioning whether the two sides should continue doing business as usual.
For the moment, there is no formal Fox News boycott.
But Navarro has made clear that he believes the Trump administration should seriously consider one.
