Trump Ally Says Governor Race Not Over Yet

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds is entering the final weeks before the Republican gubernatorial primary with a commanding lead, but the conservative congressman says his campaign is treating every day as critical until voters cast their ballots.

Speaking Wednesday during an interview on Newsmax’s Carl Higbie: FRONTLINE, Donalds said his campaign is encouraged by the latest polling but remains focused on earning support across the Sunshine State.

“We feel good, but we take nothing for granted,” Donalds said, emphasizing that the Republican nomination will be decided in less than six weeks.

Donalds Maintains Wide Lead in Republican Primary

According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, Donalds is the clear front-runner in the Republican primary for Florida governor. He holds approximately 47% support, giving him a lead of roughly 40 percentage points over businessman James Fishback.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins and former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner remain well behind in single digits.

Despite the favorable numbers, Donalds said his campaign has no plans to slow down.

“We’re looking very strong,” he said. “We’re going to continue working hard every single day and earn the confidence of Florida voters.”

The Republican primary is scheduled for Aug. 18, when GOP voters will decide who advances to the general election.

Trump Endorsement Gives Donalds Early Momentum

Donalds received an early endorsement from President Donald Trump, giving his campaign significant momentum from the outset. Political observers have credited Trump’s backing with helping Donalds separate himself from the rest of the Republican field.

Current polling also indicates Donalds would enter the general election with an advantage over potential Democratic opponents, reinforcing his position as the leading Republican contender.

Campaign Focuses on Protecting Florida’s Conservative Success

Throughout the campaign, Donalds has argued that the election is about preserving the conservative policies that have helped Florida attract new residents, businesses, and investment from across the country.

“It’s about making sure the people of Florida remember that we’re the No. 1 state in America,” Donalds said. “People are choosing Florida because of the Florida dream.”

He pointed to Florida’s economic growth, business-friendly environment, and lower taxes as reasons many Americans continue relocating to the state.

Donalds Warns Against Democratic Leadership

Donalds also warned that electing a Democrat as governor could reverse many of Florida’s recent policy achievements.

He argued that Democratic leadership has contributed to challenges in states such as New York and Illinois and said he does not want Florida following a similar path. Donalds also referenced Arizona and Virginia, saying Republicans must prevent Democrats from gaining political ground in the Sunshine State.

“We cannot let the Democrats gain a foothold in our state,” Donalds said. “We’re going to win this November and become Florida’s next governor.”

Final Stretch Before Primary Day

With just weeks remaining before Republican voters head to the polls, Donalds remains the overwhelming favorite in most public surveys. Even so, he says his campaign will continue meeting voters, expanding grassroots support, and emphasizing a conservative vision focused on economic opportunity, public safety, and keeping Florida on its current path.

The Aug. 18 Republican primary will determine who moves forward to compete in one of the nation’s most closely watched governor’s races this fall.
