A senior official in President Donald Trump’s administration is making explosive claims about the inner workings of the Democratic Party—allegations that are already fueling intense debate across Washington.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said Tuesday that Democrats maintain “blackmail files” on their own members, using damaging information as leverage to control political behavior.
Speaking on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime, Miller didn’t mince words.
“The real story is how the Democrat Party controls its members,” Miller said. “They keep files on their politicians and use them when it benefits them politically.”
He went even further, calling the alleged tactic “deeply disturbing” and suggesting it reflects a broader culture of control within Democratic leadership.
Scandal Forces Swalwell Out of Office
The accusations come at a time when Democrats are already dealing with a major internal crisis.
Former California Congressman Eric Swalwell resigned suddenly after multiple allegations of misconduct surfaced late last week.
Reports claim that Swalwell, once viewed as a rising star in California politics, sexually assaulted a former aide. Additional women have since come forward with similar accusations.
Among the most severe allegations is a claim by Lonna Drewes, who says Swalwell incapacitated her with drugs before sexually assaulting and choking her during a previous encounter.
Active Criminal Investigation Underway
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the allegations are now under investigation.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated the case is in its early stages but involves an alleged sexual assault reported to have occurred in July 2018 in West Hollywood.
Authorities emphasized the investigation is ongoing, signaling that more developments could follow.
Swalwell Denies All Allegations
Swalwell’s legal team has strongly pushed back.
Attorney Sara Azari released a statement saying the former congressman “categorically and unequivocally denies” all accusations.
She also indicated that Swalwell plans to pursue legal action against those making the claims.
Democrats Respond—Carefully
So far, Democratic leadership has avoided directly addressing Miller’s blackmail accusations.
However, several Democrats have condemned the alleged misconduct tied to Swalwell.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for a fair and transparent process, saying the accuser “must be respected and heard.”
Pelosi also suggested the matter should be handled outside the political arena, emphasizing the seriousness of the claims.
Republicans Say ‘Everyone Knew’
Republican leaders argue the situation didn’t come out of nowhere.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said concerns about Swalwell’s behavior had circulated for years on Capitol Hill.
Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown echoed that sentiment, pointing to what he described as longstanding rumors.
Special Election Scheduled
With Swalwell now out of Congress, California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a special election to fill the vacant seat.
Voters are expected to head to the polls on August 18, setting up what could become another high-profile political battle in an already tense election cycle.
Why This Story Matters
This controversy hits at the heart of two major issues dominating American politics:
- Accountability in Washington
- Transparency within political parties
With serious allegations, a federal-level resignation, and claims of internal political pressure, this story is far from over.
And as more details emerge, it could have lasting implications not just for Democrats—but for the broader political landscape under President Trump.
