Trump Endorses MLB Star For Office
President Donald Trump delivered a high-profile political endorsement Wednesday, backing former Major League Baseball All-Star Mark Teixeira in his campaign for an open U.S. House seat in Texas.
The endorsement, shared on Trump’s Truth Social account, praised Teixeira as a proven winner with a long record of discipline, leadership, and success. Trump highlighted Teixeira’s decorated baseball career, which included multiple Gold Gloves, Silver Slugger awards, and a World Series title.
Beyond athletics, Trump emphasized Teixeira’s family values and character, pointing to his commitment as a husband and father as qualities needed in Washington at a time of economic and cultural uncertainty.
Conservative Priorities Front and Center
According to the president, Teixeira would be a dependable conservative voice in Congress, focused on growing the U.S. economy, cutting taxes and regulations, restoring American manufacturing, strengthening energy independence, and securing the southern border.
Trump also said Teixeira would prioritize public safety, support law enforcement and veterans, defend the Second Amendment, promote school choice, protect election integrity, and push back against rising crime tied to illegal immigration.
Trump made his support unequivocal, stating that Teixeira has his “complete and total endorsement” to represent Texas’ 21st Congressional District and calling him a candidate voters can trust.
Open Seat Creates Competitive Republican Contest
Teixeira is seeking to replace outgoing Rep. Chip Roy, who announced last year that he will not pursue reelection. Roy instead entered the race for Texas attorney general.
The attorney general seat is opening as Ken Paxton campaigns for the U.S. Senate, where he is challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in a closely watched Republican primary.
Teixeira was the first Republican to declare his candidacy following Roy’s announcement, giving him an early start in organizing support.
Teixeira Responds to Trump Endorsement
Following the endorsement, Teixeira confirmed that he spoke directly with President Trump and expressed appreciation for the backing. He said he is prepared to fight for policies that keep America secure, prosperous, and competitive on the world stage.
Before entering politics, Teixeira spent 14 seasons in Major League Baseball, playing first base for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, and Los Angeles Angels. He retired from professional baseball in 2016 and has since remained active in business and public affairs.
With Trump’s endorsement now secured, Teixeira’s campaign gains significant momentum in one of Texas’ most important Republican House races heading into the election cycle.
