Nicki Minaj Attacked Over Trump Support
Former late-night host Trevor Noah took a lighthearted jab at rapper Nicki Minaj during his opening monologue at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
As Noah greeted well-known musicians in attendance — including Pharrell Williams, Jelly Roll, and Miley Cyrus — he noted that Minaj was noticeably absent from the ceremony.
“No Nicki Minaj tonight,” Noah joked, adding that she was “still at the White House” meeting with President Donald Trump. The remark drew laughter from the audience and appeared to reference Minaj’s recent high-profile visit to Washington, D.C.
The comment followed Minaj’s public praise of Trump during a Treasury Department–hosted event last week, where she voiced strong support for the president and dismissed criticism from detractors.
“The negativity doesn’t affect me,” Minaj said at the event, explaining that backlash from critics and some fans had only reinforced her stance. She added that the criticism motivated her to speak out even more openly.
President Trump also acknowledged Minaj during the gathering, praising the artist and welcoming her participation in discussions surrounding new financial initiatives aimed at supporting American families.
During her visit to Washington, Minaj toured the White House, visited Capitol Hill, and attended the premiere of “Melania” at the Kennedy Center, drawing widespread attention from both political observers and entertainment media.
The exchange at the Grammy Awards highlighted the growing intersection of pop culture and politics — and the increasingly visible divide between Hollywood figures who openly support President Trump and those who remain critical.
