Republican To Continue Winning Streak?
Michigan voters appear ready for a major political shift. A new poll from the Sentinel Action Fund shows former Rep. Mike Rogers, a strong Republican voice backed by President Donald Trump, holding commanding leads over every major Democrat in the 2026 U.S. Senate race.
The survey—released Monday—reveals that Rogers tops all Democratic challengers by nine points or more, putting Republicans in their strongest position in Michigan in decades.
Rogers Leads Every Democrat Tested
According to the poll, Rogers defeats these Democrat hopefuls by the following margins:
- Abdul El-Sayed: Rogers +9
- Mallory McMorrow: Rogers +13
- Haley Stevens: Rogers +9
Rogers is currently unopposed in the GOP primary, giving him a clear runway while Democrats prepare for a messy internal battle.
A statement from the Sentinel Action Fund warned that a brutal Democrat primary will “drain cash, drive up negatives, and compress their runway,” leaving Republicans a powerful opening to define the race early—before Democrats have any chance to unify.
Republicans Dominate on Key Issues That Matter to Michigan Voters
Beyond the head-to-head matchups, the poll found Republicans holding double-digit leads over Democrats on the issues voters say will shape their choice in 2026, including:
- Crime and public safety
- Border security and immigration
Republicans also hold a 7-point lead on the economy and jobs, a major indicator of voter frustration with Democrat leadership.
These gaps matter—especially in a battleground state where families continue to worry about inflation, rising crime, and the effects of President Biden’s policies before President Trump returned to the White House.
Trump’s Endorsement Strengthens Rogers’ Position
President Donald Trump endorsed Rogers in late July, calling him the best candidate to flip Michigan’s open Senate seat—currently held by retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters.
Rogers responded with gratitude, saying Trump’s “complete and total endorsement” shows confidence that he “has what it takes to win this seat and deliver real results for hard-working families.”
The endorsement adds powerful momentum heading into a high-stakes cycle.
Michigan Senate Seat Is Ripe for a Flip
Michigan hasn’t elected a Republican senator since 1994, when Spencer Abraham won. But the political landscape is shifting. Rogers narrowly lost in 2024 to Democrat Elissa Slotkin by fewer than 20,000 votes—a razor-thin margin in a state that broke late for Trump over Kamala Harris in the presidential race.
With Democrats facing an expensive, divisive primary—and Republicans unified behind a single frontrunner—2026 is shaping up to be the GOP’s best chance in decades to retake a Michigan Senate seat and strengthen President Trump’s agenda in Washington.
