Democrat Governor Drops $20 Million For Midterms

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is putting millions of dollars behind Democratic candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, expanding his political operation far beyond his home state as attention also turns toward the 2028 presidential race.

Pritzker’s new political action committee, Ready for the Fight, plans to invest at least $20 million in congressional contests around the country.

The major spending campaign puts the billionaire Democratic governor in a prominent position during the closing stretch of the midterms, when Republicans and Democrats are battling over control of Congress.

It also gives Pritzker another opportunity to build a national political network as speculation continues about whether he could eventually seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.

Pritzker’s PAC Targets Republican House Candidates

Ready for the Fight isn’t limiting its attention to the country’s most obvious swing districts.

The PAC plans advertising against Republican Rep. Max Miller in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District and Republican nominee Brandon Herrera in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.

Both districts have leaned Republican, making the decision to invest money there notable.

The strategy reflects Pritzker’s argument that Democrats should compete in races that might ordinarily receive less money and national attention rather than concentrating almost exclusively on traditional battleground districts.

Pritzker said Democrats need to “think big” and support candidates in races that are sometimes overlooked as voters continue to express concerns about affordability and the economy.

He also argued that Democrats should not retreat to only a small number of competitive races when control of Congress is at stake.

Why Max Miller and Brandon Herrera Are Being Targeted

Pritzker’s organization has used particularly strong language against Miller and Herrera, describing the Republicans as among the MAGA candidates it most wants to defeat.

Miller has faced domestic abuse allegations from his former wife. He has denied the allegations.

Herrera, meanwhile, is a firearms-focused internet personality widely known as “The AK Guy.” He has developed a substantial online following through content involving firearms, politics and cultural issues.

Ready for the Fight believes controversies surrounding the two Republicans could give Democrats an opportunity to compete in districts that would normally be challenging territory for the party.

That remains a political strategy rather than a guarantee of electoral success, and voters will ultimately determine the outcome in November.

Pritzker Expands His National Political Operation

The $20 million investment represents another expansion of Pritzker’s involvement in Democratic politics outside Illinois.

Pritzker has previously backed Think Big America, an organization originally focused on abortion rights that later broadened its advocacy to additional economic and family-related issues.

As one of America’s wealthiest elected officials, Pritzker has the financial resources to support political organizations and candidates on a scale unavailable to most governors.

His latest PAC could help Democratic candidates while simultaneously allowing Pritzker to develop relationships with politicians, activists, campaign organizations and donors throughout the country.

Pritzker has increasingly emerged as a national Democratic figure during President Donald Trump’s second term.
