Trump Shutting Down Renewable Energy?
Cuts to Wind and Solar Subsidies Put American Families First
President Donald Trump is delivering on his pledge to protect American taxpayers from what many see as the bloated, unreliable “green energy” industry. His administration is rolling back billions in wind and solar subsidies, putting the brakes on projects that critics say drive up power bills and weaken the nation’s energy grid.
Trump’s landmark tax and spending bill gutted much of the Democrats’ 2022 Inflation Reduction Act giveaways for renewable developers. Now, he’s going further — ordering the Treasury Department to strictly limit which projects still qualify for the remaining handouts.
Red Tape for Big Wind and Solar Projects
The Interior Department is hitting large-scale wind and solar farms with tough new review requirements. These rules could stall projects not only on federal lands but even on private property — a move industry leaders admit could throw hundreds of developments into “limbo.”
The administration is also weighing a ban on certain onshore wind farms, halting new offshore wind leases, and moving to cancel an already-approved wind project in Idaho.
At the same time, the Environmental Protection Agency has begun the process of reclaiming $7 billion from a federal rooftop solar program — a bold step to rein in taxpayer spending.
Fossil Fuels First — Energy America Can Trust
Trump’s message is clear: reliable, affordable energy comes first. His broader agenda calls for expanding U.S. oil, natural gas, and coal production, ensuring the grid can handle future demand without depending on intermittent power sources.
“This administration is focused on expanding reliable, affordable energy — not throwing taxpayer money at risky experiments,” a senior White House official said.
Pushback from the GOP Establishment
Not everyone in the Republican Party is on board. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and John Curtis (R-Utah) have stalled Treasury nominees over the new rules. But Texas conservative firebrand Rep. Chip Roy has a blunt message for them: “Ignore them.”
Why It Matters for You
- Lower energy bills: Cutting subsidies means ending the hidden costs that land on your utility statement.
- A stronger grid: Reliable energy sources keep the lights on in every season.
- Energy independence: Less reliance on China-linked solar supply chains.
Trump has long opposed wasteful green projects, especially wind farms, which he’s called an eyesore and a threat to wildlife. As he told supporters years ago — no new wind farms should go up on his watch unless they make sense for America.
With his latest moves, the president is making sure that promise holds.
