Democrats Say Trump Making Putin Happy
The Trump administration is once again making bold moves to drain the swamp — this time by trimming the bloated ranks of the State Department. On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the layoff of over 1,300 foreign service and civil service employees, calling it a necessary step in modernizing a department long weighed down by inefficiency and globalist priorities.
But instead of supporting American taxpayers and national security, Democrats rushed to defend the deep state bureaucracy.
Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) appeared on CNN Monday, blasting the move and claiming the cuts would make Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping “celebrate.” His remarks are part of a growing pattern among Democrats: defending outdated foreign policy elites while criticizing Trump’s “America First” approach.
“Our adversaries are cheering while our allies are concerned,” Van Hollen claimed. “This is America in retreat.”
Rubio: “This Isn’t About Politics — It’s About Priorities”
Rubio, speaking to reporters during a diplomatic visit to Asia, dismissed the partisan attacks. “When you shut down outdated programs, you don’t need the same staff. This is about realigning our foreign policy with real-world needs,” Rubio said.
Earlier this year, Rubio greenlit the closure of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a program that has faced criticism for mismanagement and waste.
Foreign Policy Elites Panic as Trump Fulfills Another Campaign Promise
The layoffs sparked a protest outside the State Department on Friday, with Van Hollen and other Democrats rallying in defense of federal workers — a spectacle some conservatives described as “protecting the deep state.”
The American Foreign Service Association issued a statement claiming the cuts “signal retreat” to U.S. allies. But supporters of the move argue just the opposite — that the U.S. is finally putting American taxpayers, sovereignty, and priorities first.
“This is exactly what the Trump base voted for — shrinking bloated agencies and rejecting decades of failed foreign policy,” said one policy analyst.
Bottom Line: Trump Delivers Again
While liberal politicians and globalist institutions sound the alarm, President Trump is once again keeping his promise to reform Washington and put America first. Cutting bureaucratic fat isn’t weakness — it’s leadership.
