This was very unexpected.
In a surprising turn, former President Barack Obama’s top aides are sounding the alarm—not at conservatives, but at their own party. This time, it’s over the disturbing trend of left-wing activists politicizing tragedy. As deadly flooding devastates Texas, prominent Democrats and media figures have wasted no time in pointing fingers—blaming everything from climate change to President Trump and even accusing Texas voters of “getting what they deserve.”
The podcast Pod Save America, hosted by several former Obama officials, pushed back hard against this toxic rhetoric. While liberals on social media cheered the destruction in Texas as a form of “karma” for supporting Trump in 2020, the show’s hosts called out the comments as “gross” and “un-American.”
“We’re all Americans. Don’t do that,” said co-host Tommy Vietor, condemning the gloating that flooded Twitter.
Fellow host Jon Favreau blasted those mocking the victims: “I saw people saying, ‘Texas, you voted for Trump and this is what you get.’ What the hell? That’s disgusting.” Favreau also disputed the left’s claim that federal budget cuts under Trump caused the disaster, pointing out that independent meteorologists confirmed the National Weather Service issued timely alerts.
While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demanded an investigation into NWS staffing, even former Obama staffers weren’t buying the political blame game. They emphasized that emergency failures were likely local, not federal.
Still, that hasn’t stopped the radical left from showing their true colors. Liberal commentator Ron Filipkowski claimed Texans are simply “getting what they voted for.” Others went further. Texas pediatrician Dr. Christina Propst said she hoped MAGA voters would suffer the consequences of their vote, but that “non-MAGA voters and pets” stay safe. “Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA,” she added. “May they get what they voted for.”
Even race was weaponized in this moment of national mourning. Sade Perkins, a former Houston official, labeled a Christian summer camp—where 27 young girls and staff perished—a “Whites-only” camp. Her partner, Reverend Colin Bossen, later apologized and distanced himself from the hateful comments.
This growing pattern of politicizing disasters, mocking the dead, and attacking voters based on race and politics is deeply disturbing. When even Obama’s inner circle says the radical left has gone too far, it’s clear the Democrat Party is losing touch with basic decency.
For millions of Americans, especially those over 50 who remember a more respectful political era, this new wave of hatred is a wake-up call. As President Trump continues to speak for working-class Americans, patriotic families, and disaster victims alike, the contrast couldn’t be clearer.
