Newsom Attacks Trump Again

In a dramatic escalation Tuesday night, California Governor Gavin Newsom lashed out at President Donald Trump after the White House ordered thousands of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines into Los Angeles to restore order amid intensifying immigration-related protests.

Newsom, a Democrat and frequent Trump critic, claimed the federal response was not targeting dangerous criminals or individuals with deportation orders — but instead “hard-working immigrant families,” regardless of their background or legal history.

“This reckless use of authority by a sitting president poured fuel on an already volatile situation,” Newsom said in a video statement. “He escalated matters with an aggressive National Guard deployment — and he knew exactly what he was doing.”

But President Trump, known for putting law and order first, hit back hard — and directly.

“California’s totally inept governor failed to act fast enough to protect our brave ICE officers when they were assaulted by a violent mob of agitators, radicals, and likely insurrectionists,” President Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Wednesday morning.

The deployment came as protests erupted across Southern California in response to immigration enforcement actions. According to the White House, these protests quickly escalated into violence, prompting the federal government to intervene to prevent chaos from spreading.

White House Blasts Newsom’s Weak Leadership

Trump wasn’t the only one to speak out. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung blasted the California governor, mocking him on social platform X (formerly Twitter):

“Looks like Newsom brought on Kamala and Biden’s failed campaign crew — now he’s calling this a ‘threat to democracy.’ Give me a break,” Cheung wrote.

Meanwhile, Newsom continued to push back, arguing that the deployment of troops had only worsened tensions in the streets of Los Angeles. He accused federal agents of arresting everyday workers such as dishwashers, gardeners, day laborers, and seamstresses — not just violent criminals.

“That’s not real strength — it’s weakness pretending to be leadership,” Newsom stated. “Instead of safeguarding our communities, Trump’s administration is instilling fear. And it appears that may be intentional.”

Lawsuit Filed as National Guard Stays Put

Despite a judge’s initial rejection of Newsom’s emergency request to limit troop deployment, the governor is moving forward with a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging what he calls the “unlawful use of state National Guard personnel.”

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, where both sides will present further evidence.

But Trump is holding the line, insisting his swift response prevented a much larger disaster:

“Had we not sent in the troops, Los Angeles would be in flames — much like many of their neighborhoods already are,” Trump posted. “The people of L.A. should be grateful I stepped in when their leaders wouldn’t!!!”
