Here’s what the GOP is thinking.
Are IRS agents supposed to carry calculators—or carry guns?
That’s the question a new bill from House Republicans is asking—and millions of Americans are wondering the same thing.
As the IRS continues to grow in size and power, new legislation aims to put a stop to a disturbing trend: federal tax agents armed to the teeth, funded by your hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
“Why Does the IRS Need Guns?” Act Introduced by GOP Lawmakers
Representative Barry Moore (R-AL) has introduced the Why Does the IRS Need Guns Act, a bold move to disarm the Internal Revenue Service. The bill would stop the IRS from buying, storing, or using firearms and ammunition. Instead, all weapons would be handed over to the General Services Administration.
Here’s what the bill proposes:
- IRS-owned guns would be sold to licensed Federal Firearms dealers
- IRS ammunition would be auctioned off to the general public
- All proceeds would go directly to the U.S. Treasury to reduce the national deficit
The measure also transfers the IRS Criminal Investigation Division to the Department of Justice, keeping law enforcement in the hands of actual law enforcement—not tax collectors.
“The only thing IRS agents should be armed with are calculators,” said Moore. “Not semi-automatic weapons bought with taxpayer money.”
IRS Stockpiling Weapons? The Facts Might Shock You
According to watchdog reports, the IRS has spent millions on firearms, tactical gear, and ammunition in recent years. While the agency claims it’s part of enforcement operations, many Americans are left wondering:
Why does a tax agency need an arsenal?
Rep. Moore says this is just one more example of federal overreach and government weaponization.
“The IRS has been used to target religious groups, conservatives, journalists, and average Americans,” Moore said. “Arming them doesn’t make us safer—it puts law-abiding citizens at risk.”
Backed by Conservative Leaders
The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Reps. Harriet Hageman (WY), Mary Miller (IL), and Clay Higgins (LA)—all known for defending Second Amendment rights and exposing the dangers of deep state overreach.
On Tax Day, Moore took to X (formerly Twitter) to remind the public:
“It’s time to stop wasting taxpayer dollars stockpiling guns and ammo. Defund the IRS’s firepower.”
Why This Bill Matters to Conservative Americans Age 50+
If you’ve spent your life working, saving, and paying into the system, the idea of IRS agents carrying weapons bought with your tax dollars should give you pause. This bill taps into real concerns about:
- Government accountability
- Fiscal responsibility
- Protecting Second Amendment rights
- Ending bureaucratic intimidation of citizens
As the national debt skyrockets and the federal government expands its power, many are asking: What happened to common sense?
BOTTOM LINE: The IRS should collect taxes—not weapons.
It’s time to disarm the bureaucracy and return power to the people.
