House Democrats Attack MAGA Again
Rep. Steven Horsford, a Democrat from Nevada, recently criticized the budget resolution approved by House Republicans, calling it a “screw America bill.” Speaking on “The Hill Sunday” with Chris Stirewalt of NewsNation, Horsford claimed that the plan would harm everyday Americans, seniors, the disabled, and vulnerable groups like pregnant women and newborns. He argued that these cuts, totaling $2 trillion, are designed to benefit the wealthy, big corporations, and tech tycoons, rather than serving the needs of hardworking families.
The House passed the budget resolution with a narrow 217-215 vote. While this marks a significant step for Republicans, Senate Republicans have voiced concerns about the proposal. Many argue that it doesn’t go far enough in making the Trump-era tax cuts permanent, which was a key promise made during the last presidential campaign. Additionally, there are fears that the resolution could lead to cuts in essential programs like Medicaid, further straining healthcare services for the most vulnerable.
Despite criticism from Democrats like Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, who highlighted the potential $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid, Republicans defend the budget resolution as a necessary step toward fiscal responsibility. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, praised the resolution’s passage, emphasizing that it is a crucial first step in the budget reconciliation process. Johnson and other Republicans argue that the cuts are needed to curb the national debt and ensure long-term economic stability.
While Democrats continue to warn about the impact on low-income families, Republicans maintain that their budget will prioritize tax relief for the middle class and foster a stronger, more resilient economy. The debate is expected to intensify as the budget heads to the Senate for further discussion.
