JD Vance Gets Big Senate Win

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Daniel Driscoll as Army Secretary under President Trump. Driscoll, a 38-year-old Army veteran and businessman, earned broad support across party lines, securing a 66-28 vote. His confirmation marks a pivotal moment for the military leadership as Driscoll brings a wealth of diverse experience to the role, having served as a senior advisor to Vice President Vance before being nominated.

Driscoll’s military background includes a 3 ½ year stint in the Army, with a deployment to Iraq in 2009. His time in the military and firsthand exposure to the realities of war shaped his understanding of America’s military strategies and international interventions. This experience, along with his education at Yale Law School, where he crossed paths with Vance, has greatly influenced his views on military and foreign policy. Reflecting on his time in Iraq, Driscoll has voiced concerns about the decisions made by U.S. leadership during that period, calling attention to the cost of those actions.

In 2020, Driscoll made an attempt to represent North Carolina’s 11th District in Congress, though he lost in the Republican primary to Madison Cawthorn. In addition to his military and political roles, Driscoll also worked as an investment banker in North Carolina. His wide-ranging career experiences make him a strong candidate to lead the Army in a way that aligns with conservative values, emphasizing efficiency and fiscal responsibility.

Driscoll’s confirmation comes at a time when leadership in the Army faces unique challenges. In his Senate hearing, he discussed priorities like enhancing the military’s defense against drones and boosting recruitment by highlighting the benefits of service, including the GI Bill. Additionally, he reassured senators, including Sen. Tammy Duckworth, that he would only follow lawful and constitutional orders, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the rule of law and standing firm against illegal directives.

President Trump expressed confidence in Driscoll, calling him a “disruptor” and “change agent,” and praised his commitment to the “America First” agenda. With Driscoll at the helm, conservatives can expect a leadership approach focused on strengthening the military while protecting the interests of our nation and service members.
