Rubio Clarifies Rumors About Trump
Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently defended President Trump’s concerns regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, especially in relation to the ongoing peace negotiations with Russia. Rubio reminded viewers that even President Biden has experienced frustration with Zelensky, pointing out that this tension isn’t a one-sided issue.
During an exclusive interview, Rubio explained that President Trump’s anger toward Zelensky is understandable, noting that Biden, too, had been frustrated with the Ukrainian leader. Rubio referred to a heated phone call in October 2022, during which President Biden expressed his anger after Zelensky publicly criticized the U.S. despite receiving a $1 billion military aid package. Biden reportedly lashed out at Zelensky during the conversation, with news outlets later reporting that Biden used harsh language.
Rubio also highlighted his own frustrations, particularly regarding a proposal for a mineral deal that would have helped the U.S. recover $200 million in funds, while also providing a security interest in Ukraine. However, after the meeting, Zelensky publicly rejected the deal, claiming it wasn’t something Ukraine could accept. Rubio made it clear that this wasn’t the impression he had left during the meeting and that such public rejections were frustrating for those trying to help Ukraine.
While acknowledging Ukraine’s importance, Rubio reiterated a key message: the conflict in Ukraine, though significant, is distant from American shores and does not directly affect the daily lives of U.S. citizens. He emphasized that the U.S. is involved because of the broader global implications, but there needs to be a sense of appreciation from Ukraine for the support it has received.
Rubio also addressed concerns about Zelensky’s role in the peace talks. He clarified that Ukraine and European leaders were indeed engaged in negotiations, as he had personally spoken with foreign ministers from multiple countries. Even President Trump, in a recent Fox News interview, suggested that Zelensky may not be crucial to future talks, criticizing him for lacking effective negotiating power.
As the Trump administration works toward ending the conflict within six months, Rubio stressed that the U.S. has been a key ally to Ukraine, but mutual respect and cooperation will be necessary to reach a resolution.
