Trump Reaches Major Milestone
In a significant diplomatic development, Marco Rubio, Mike Waltz, and Steve Witkoff are expected to engage with senior Russian officials in Saudi Arabia soon to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This upcoming meeting marks the potential first major dialogue between Russian and Ukrainian representatives since the war began in 2022, and it could play a pivotal role in advancing former President Donald Trump’s peace initiative.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns about the meeting, stating that Ukraine has not been formally invited to participate in any discussions involving Trump’s team and Russian officials. In remarks made in Munich, Zelensky emphasized that it was unusual to hold such a meeting without prior consultations with Ukraine’s key strategic allies.
The surprise announcement of these Saudi talks has raised eyebrows in Kyiv, with no current plans for Ukraine to send a delegation. Politico reported that General Keith Kellogg, Trump’s appointed special envoy for Ukraine-Russia negotiations, will not attend the gathering. Furthermore, NATO allies who have been vocal about their desire for inclusion in negotiations are likely to be frustrated by the lack of European participation in these talks.
In a related development, President Trump recently expressed his expectation to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin multiple times. In an Oval Office statement, Trump confirmed that the first face-to-face meeting could take place in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the growing potential for a diplomatic breakthrough. This shift in U.S.-Russian relations under Trump’s leadership could prove essential in bringing about an end to the brutal war in Ukraine, positioning America as a leading force for peace on the global stage.
