What Americans Trust Trump Most On
A recent survey by YouGov reveals that President Donald Trump enjoys strong trust from a majority of Americans when it comes to handling immigration. In fact, 52 percent of respondents expressed confidence in his ability to manage this critical issue. However, his standing is weaker on other matters, with lower trust levels seen in his handling of environmental and healthcare concerns.
When it comes to key policy areas, 47 percent of Americans trust Trump on the economy, while 45 percent place their faith in his foreign policy decisions, and 43 percent believe in his ability to manage foreign trade.
The poll highlights a stark partisan divide, with Republicans showing robust support for Trump’s leadership on a variety of issues. Among Republicans, a large majority—87 percent—trust Trump to handle immigration and the economy. These figures are even higher compared to his handling of foreign policy, where 84 percent express confidence in his leadership. However, these numbers show slight declines from November 2024, possibly reflecting the evolving political landscape.
On the other hand, Democrats demonstrate little to no trust in Trump across the board. A striking 84 percent of Democrats doubt his ability to manage race relations, while 81 percent have little faith in his handling of LGBTQ issues.
While Trump’s actions on immigration have been a key focus during his presidency, his approach has been controversial, particularly with measures that affect both illegal immigration and legal immigration processes. In his first week back in office, Trump introduced new border policies and ramped up enforcement efforts, signaling his commitment to securing America’s borders.
Additionally, President Trump has rolled back several environmental regulations, a move welcomed by his supporters and the oil and gas industry. Mike Sommers, CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, praised these actions, noting they would boost domestic energy production. Environmental groups, however, have raised concerns about the potential damage to the environment, underscoring the ongoing debate surrounding Trump’s energy policies.
The YouGov survey, which interviewed 1,132 respondents from January 4-28, 2025, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, making it clear that the trust in Trump remains heavily influenced by party affiliation, with Republicans largely supportive and Democrats largely skeptical.
