Media Says Trump Abusing His Power, Are They Right?

GOP Calls For Purging What?

Republican Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is calling for significant reforms at the State Department, including the removal of certain personnel. During a recent appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation, Mast discussed several pressing issues, including tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump on countries like China, Mexico, and Canada, and the broader implications on American sovereignty.

When asked by host Margaret Brennan about the tariffs’ impact on national security, Mast responded firmly, emphasizing that the real violation had been against the U.S. itself. He pointed out that America had long been taken advantage of on the global stage, and the tariffs were a necessary response to protect U.S. interests. Mast, as the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, made it clear that he would continue to push for reforms, especially during the State Department’s reauthorization process. “We need to make sure that we are giving full authority to our actions and ensuring that we hold individuals accountable within the State Department and other agencies,” he said.

The congressman also called for the “purging” of those in government who prioritize woke policies over American interests. He cited the growing influence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at the State Department, which he argues are undermining diplomacy. Mast listed several examples of how taxpayer dollars have been used for controversial DEI-related projects abroad, including funding a transgender opera in Colombia, LGBTQ comic books in Peru, and drag shows in Ecuador. He expressed frustration that these initiatives seemed to take precedence over meaningful foreign policy goals.

Mast further discussed his efforts to work with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on restructuring the department to better align with America’s national security priorities. For Mast, this isn’t just about policy reform—it’s about restoring American sovereignty and ensuring that government agencies serve the interests of the American people above all else.
