Trump Team Prepares For Chicago Raids
Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan recently addressed concerns surrounding immigration enforcement raids scheduled to begin in Chicago, following a leak of the operation details. During two separate interviews on Saturday, Homan confirmed that the Trump administration is reconsidering the initial plans due to the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information.
“We are currently reviewing the situation in Chicago because of the leak,” Homan stated in an interview with ABC News. He further elaborated to The Washington Post, explaining that the Trump administration has yet to make a final decision on how to proceed. “Leaks of law enforcement operations jeopardize the safety of officers and hinder our efforts to enforce the law,” he added.
The controversy stems from a report in The Wall Street Journal, which detailed plans for large-scale deportation efforts in Chicago. According to the report, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had prepared to deploy up to 200 agents in the Chicago area, targeting approximately 300 individuals with violent criminal histories. The raid was expected to begin just days after the inauguration of President Trump, marking the beginning of a nationwide effort to address illegal immigration.
“The priority of ICE under this new administration will be to remove individuals who pose a threat to public safety and national security,” Homan told ABC News, aligning with President Trump’s long-standing commitment to tackling illegal immigration and prioritizing the deportation of criminal aliens.
While details about other cities involved in the operation remain vague, Trump confirmed in an NBC News interview that the raids would begin “very early” and that specific locations would not be disclosed for security reasons. Despite opposition from local leaders in Chicago, including Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB Pritzker, who have reaffirmed the city’s sanctuary policies, Homan is firm in his resolve to carry out deportations, starting in Chicago.
“We’re going to remove criminal aliens across the country, starting with Chicago,” Homan declared, emphasizing that the administration would lift restrictions on ICE operations to allow them to focus on criminals who have been allowed to remain in the country. For the Trump administration, cracking down on illegal immigration is not just a policy but a promise to Americans that the rule of law will be upheld.
