JD Vance Trashes California Leaders
As California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom struggles to manage the catastrophic wildfires ravaging the state, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance is not backing down from holding the governor accountable. In a recent TV interview, Vance rejected Newsom’s plea to avoid politicizing the disaster, emphasizing the importance of competent governance and leadership.
“We need leadership that actually works,” Vance said. “This doesn’t mean you can’t call out mistakes when you see them, and California has made many over the years. From reservoirs that have been dry for decades to fire hydrants running out of water while firefighters battle wildfires—these are signs of long-term mismanagement.”
Vance’s comments come as President Donald Trump has publicly called for Newsom to resign, citing the state’s failure to manage its resources and respond effectively to the escalating fires. Vance echoed this sentiment, calling the lack of preparation and foresight in California a clear example of the need for stronger, more competent leadership both at the state and federal levels.
Vance also expressed concern over the federal response, criticizing President Joe Biden for being “asleep at the wheel” when it comes to addressing these crises. “The federal government must step up,” Vance asserted. “President Trump has always made disaster relief a priority, whether it’s for victims of hurricanes, floods, or wildfires. We need a government that works, and we need it now.”
While expressing sympathy for the victims, Vance also underscored that the wildfires’ destruction is a direct result of poor governance. “When you see homes lost that families have lived in for decades, it breaks your heart. But these tragedies didn’t happen by accident—they’re the result of years of bad decisions and inaction. We have to do better.”
Vance concluded by reaffirming the shared principles that united Trump’s successful coalition, emphasizing that government should be effective, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people. “President Trump and I are committed to bringing back common-sense leadership, where the government actually delivers results when it’s needed most.”
