Gingrich Calls Trump A What?
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) recently described President-elect Donald Trump as a “mythic figure,” emphasizing his unparalleled resilience and rise to power, which defy traditional political logic. Gingrich appeared on Fox News’ Hannity, where he noted that Trump’s success cannot be easily explained within the conventional frameworks of American politics.
“Look, if you’re a seasoned global leader, and you’ve witnessed the nine-year saga of Donald Trump’s ascent, his two impeachments, relentless legal battles, and even assassination attempts, and yet the man continues to prevail—this is no ordinary politician,” Gingrich said. “He’s a mythic figure, akin to the heroic figures in ancient epics like Beowulf. There’s simply no practical way to explain his rise within the typical political structure.”
Gingrich pointed to a recent poll showing a significant majority of Americans believe Trump received a clear mandate in the 2024 election, with less than a third of the country disagreeing. He argued this strong backing puts Trump in a favorable position as he prepares to take office once again. “Trump is coming back with a nearly 2-to-1 margin of support as the legitimate leader of the nation. To the rest of the world, this sends a powerful message—America is still the most dominant nation on earth, and Trump is the man leading it,” Gingrich added. “Many global leaders are not just acknowledging his return—they’re stunned by it.”
In the November election, Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, winning 312 Electoral College votes to her 226. Although the popular vote was narrow, with Trump securing 49.9% compared to Harris’s 48.2%, the victory, coupled with Republican gains in both chambers of Congress, reinforces the mandate Trump believes he has earned. He has called his victory “unprecedented and powerful,” signaling a new chapter in his leadership of the nation.
