Kamala Raises How Much?
Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign is riding high following a successful Democratic National Convention and impressive fundraising numbers.
In a recent campaign memo, the Harris team revealed that they have raised a substantial $540 million since Harris launched her bid just over a month ago, following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek reelection. Campaign chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon highlighted that just before Harris’s keynote speech at the DNC, the campaign experienced its most significant fundraising surge of the cycle. “Just before Vice President Harris’s acceptance speech on Thursday night, we surpassed the $500 million milestone,” O’Malley Dillon noted. “And following her address, we recorded our most lucrative fundraising hour since the campaign’s inception.”
Prior to Biden’s withdrawal on July 21, Democratic fundraising efforts had faltered as Biden’s support dwindled in the polls, particularly against former President Donald Trump. However, following Biden’s exit, fundraising efforts revitalized significantly.
For July, the Harris campaign reported raising $310 million, leaving them with $377 million in cash reserves. In comparison, Trump’s campaign raised $139 million during the same period, with $327 million in cash on hand.
Additionally, the Harris campaign has already committed $150 million to advertising for August and secured $370 million in ad buys for the period following Labor Day through Election Day. With 72 days remaining until the general election, both campaigns are poised to increase their spending and fundraising activities. Early voting will commence in several states next month, adding urgency to the campaign efforts.
The upcoming race between Trump and Harris is anticipated to be highly competitive, with polls in crucial swing states indicating a closely contested battle for the 270 electoral votes needed for victory.
