Former President Trump and President Biden are running neck and neck in hypothetical match-ups in two key states, according to the latest polling from The New York Times and Siena College.
In the polling released Monday, Trump leads Biden by 3 points (48 percent to 45 percent) among likely voters in Pennsylvania, while Biden leads Trump by 3 points (48 percent to 45 percent) among likely voters in Virginia. These results fall within the margins of error for both polls.
The polls were conducted after Biden’s shaky debate performance last month, which sparked public debate over his position as the Democratic Party’s candidate. However, the polling occurred before the attempted assassination of Trump this past Saturday, an event that has shaken the nation and could influence future poll results in unpredictable ways.
Biden’s performance in the July 2024 poll in Pennsylvania is nearly identical to the previous poll conducted from late April to early May. In that earlier poll, Trump led Biden by 3 points among registered voters, with 47 percent to Biden’s 44 percent.
Biden narrowly won Pennsylvania in 2020, and the state remains a crucial battleground for his reelection efforts this year.
Pollsters pointed out that Biden’s narrow lead in Virginia could be more concerning for his reelection team since he won Virginia by 10 points in 2020.
The polls also assessed voter sentiment regarding Vice President Harris amid some calls within the party for her to replace Biden as the nominee.
Harris performs slightly better than Biden in both states, although the differences remain within the margins of error. In Pennsylvania, Harris narrows Trump’s lead to just 1 point, with 47 percent support to Trump’s 48 percent among likely voters. In Virginia, Harris leads Trump by 5 points, with 49 percent to 44 percent.
Despite some calls from within the Democratic Party for Biden to step aside, the president and his team have reaffirmed his commitment to staying in the race. Many Democrats have renewed their support for Biden and criticized party members who have attacked the candidate.
The Pennsylvania poll of 872 voters was conducted July 9-11 and has a margin of sampling error of 3.8 percentage points. The Virginia poll of 661 voters was conducted July 9-12 and has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

“Do You Support Trump’s VP Pick JD Vance?”
based on the current poll results (almost 94% in favor when i looked), its amazing how blindly people seem to just assume that President Trump’s decision is the right one. not to make light of what happened recently, but is this more of a “feel sorry” response due to what happened or are people just not thinking for themselves?
until recently, i had no idea what vance’s positions are on various important topics. sure, his name was familiar to me, but not his political positions. after doing some VERY basic research, i am emphatically NOT in favor of him as a VP. hopefully, vance will prove me wrong, but based on President Trump’s history of choosing worthless people to surround him, i doubt it.
well, here’s my initial thoughts/concerns:
1st, as mentioned, he’s someone that President Trump has selected. as great of a president that President Trump has been during his 1st term, he does have a major fault, that being his extremely poor choices for people to fill key positions. for example, Pence as his 1st VP; Sessions, and Barr as AG’s; Gina Haspel as head of CIA, etc…
2nd, it’s mentioned that Vance has military background, like that’s supposed to be a big plus. maybe in the past, but with today’s DEI crap, being a vet is now highly suspect and shouldn’t be a “free pass”. just look at worthless RINO’s Dan Crenshaw and Todd Young, both of whom have military backgrounds.
3rd, Vance is a well-known “never-Trumper”, so is he just putting on a conservative face just to make it into the VP slot and then will do a “Pence” and work with the RINOs and Democrats and back-stab President Trump in order to help get him out of office so that he can slide right in to replace him? i guess only time will tell.
4th, the GOP traditionally has been a staunch supporter of being pro-life. vance, OTOH, seems to hold a position that is willing to murder babies under some very liberal circumstances.
5th, i read one article that pegs him as being more “independent” than GOP. this country is in dire straights. we need someone that will stand firm for backing the US Constitution and NOT abandon it in order to “reach across the aisle”.
6th, although he’s filled out a survey stating that he is pro-2A, he does not have enough voting history to verify that he is really telling the truth. there have been a number of politicians that have filled out 2A surveys with answers that would make the gun-grabbers have a heart attack, but when the rubber meets the road, they vote the opposite.
don’t get me wrong, i’m NOT ready to totally write him off just yet. all i’m “sayin’ ” is that it’ll take an awful lot to get me to be comfortable with him. for that to happen, he needs to be a staunch follower/believer in the US Constitution. IF that happens, i’ll be ok with him, ’cause that’s what this country needs right now, NOT another RINO/t r a i t o r.
