VIDEO: Liz Cheney Announces 2024 Run?
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, former Representative Liz Cheney left the door open to the possibility of launching her own presidential campaign in 2024. When asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper if she was ruling out a White House candidacy, the Wyoming Republican replied, “That’s right, I’m not.”
According to The Messenger, should Cheney decide to enter the race, she would likely find herself in a crowded field for the Republican primary, with former President Donald Trump as a prominent contender. Cheney has a history of criticizing the former president and served on the House panel that investigated the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. In 2022, she lost her House seat in a highly competitive Republican primary to Harriet Hageman, who had Trump’s endorsement and now represents Wyoming’s at-large seat.
During her CNN appearance, Cheney voiced her concerns, stating that she believes the former president is the “single most dangerous threat” that Americans currently face. Regardless of her own candidacy plans, Cheney expressed her intention to remain actively engaged in the 2024 election cycle. She pointed out her worries about the possibility of Trump prevailing in a scenario where the presidential election is “thrown” to the House of Representatives due to an Electoral College tie.
Cheney emphasized her commitment to supporting candidates who prioritize the Constitution and take their congressional responsibilities seriously, pledging to be involved in the effort to elect such individuals in the lead-up to the 2024 election. As the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, she stressed the importance of electing those who uphold constitutional principles.
