In a surprising revelation, Oprah Winfrey is said to have proposed a presidential run in 2020 alongside Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) as part of a unity ticket aimed at preventing Former President Trump’s reelection.

This intriguing piece of political history was shared by Romney himself with The Atlantic’s McKay Coppins, according to excerpts from Coppins’ soon-to-be-released book, “Romney: A Reckoning,” featured by Axios. Winfrey’s idea was framed as a patriotic effort “to save the country.”

However, Romney expressed that he sidestepped the proposal, concerned that such a move might inadvertently aid Trump’s reelection campaign.

Insiders close to Winfrey indicate that her presidential aspirations were never earnest, despite encouragement from some within her circle.

Though Winfrey identifies as an independent voter, her support has often boosted Democrats, evident in her recent endorsement of Sen. John Fetterman in his 2022 Pennsylvania race against Republican Mehmet Oz, the renowned doctor who rose to fame via Oprah’s TV show.

Coppins’ book, expected next week, draws from extensive interviews with Romney and offers a unique glimpse into the senator’s thoughts through his journals and diaries.

Romney, whose 2012 presidential bid did not succeed, declared his retirement just last month.
