Meghan McCain, known for her appearances on “The View” and as the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), voiced her disapproval of the Republican Party’s recent actions. Following the unprecedented decision by the House to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), McCain expressed her dismay, stating on X (previously known as Twitter), “The essence of the GOP has now become sheer chaos.”

McCain has not shied away from sharing her concerns about the party’s direction, especially since the rise of former President Trump.

The move to dethrone McCarthy was spearheaded by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and supported by seven other Republicans, who sided with Democrats in the vote. Their primary grievance was McCarthy’s recent choice to approve a short-term resolution to prevent a government shutdown. This resolution maintained the existing funding levels with minimal alterations. However, Gaetz and his conservative allies were pushing for a budget that introduced substantial reductions.

Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.), one of the members who voted against McCarthy, emphasized the need for a Speaker who would uphold the promises made by the Republicans. He criticized McCarthy for endorsing deals that seemed to favor Democrats more than his own party.

In the wake of this upheaval, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) has stepped in as the interim Speaker. The timeline for electing a new Speaker remains uncertain, as does McCarthy’s potential bid to reclaim his position.
