Democrat Says Trump Suffering From What?
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker ignited a fresh political firestorm Tuesday after accusing President Donald Trump of suffering from dementia during a nationally televised interview. The White House swiftly rejected the allegation, defending Trump’s health while criticizing the Democratic governor and accusing him of spreading false claims.
The exchange unfolded during Pritzker’s appearance on CNN, where host Kaitlan Collins asked about several recent remarks made by Trump, including his statement that communism poses a greater long-term threat to the United States than the two World Wars, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
In response, Pritzker claimed Trump is “continually suffering from dementia,” arguing that the president often speaks without fully understanding or considering what he is saying.
The Illinois governor also accused Trump of repeatedly threatening political opponents, pointing to past remarks involving Chicago’s mayor and Illinois state officials. Pritzker further alleged that the Trump administration has used the Department of Justice to target individuals with whom the president disagrees politically.
According to Pritzker, Trump frequently voices ideas as they come to mind without carefully thinking through their implications.
White House Defends Trump’s Health
The Trump administration quickly pushed back against the governor’s remarks.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed Pritzker’s comments, calling the Illinois governor “an incompetent governor” who is promoting false narratives in an effort to remain politically relevant.
Ingle argued that instead of making accusations during television interviews, Pritzker should focus on addressing challenges facing Illinois.
The White House also contrasted Trump’s health with that of former President Joe Biden, saying the current administration has been transparent about Trump’s medical condition while accusing the previous administration and much of the media of minimizing concerns about Biden’s physical and cognitive health during his presidency.
According to the administration, Trump continues to demonstrate strong energy, mental sharpness, and an active public schedule.
Questions About Trump’s Health Continue
At 80 years old, Trump remains the oldest person ever elected president, making his health an ongoing topic of public and political discussion.
The president completed another comprehensive physical examination in May, marking his third medical evaluation in just over a year.
Following that examination, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland sent a letter to White House physician Capt. Sean Barbabella questioning why more than 20 medical specialists participated in Trump’s evaluation before concluding that the president was in excellent health.
Raskin argued that Americans deserve greater transparency regarding the president’s overall condition and whether he remains fully capable of carrying out the responsibilities of the office.
Earlier this year, the congressman also requested a formal cognitive evaluation after expressing concerns about several of Trump’s public remarks.
White House Explains Recent Medical Concerns
Additional questions surfaced after photographs showed bruising on Trump’s hand during recent public appearances. The bruising was later covered with makeup, prompting speculation online.
Observers also noticed swelling around the president’s ankles.
According to Dr. Barbabella, the ankle swelling was caused by chronic venous insufficiency, a common circulatory condition that becomes more common with age.
The physician also explained that the bruising resulted from minor soft tissue irritation caused by frequent handshakes, combined with Trump’s daily aspirin regimen, which he takes as part of a preventative heart health program.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he is in excellent health and has pointed to his annual physical examinations as evidence. Supporters frequently cite his demanding public schedule and campaign appearances as proof of his stamina, while critics continue to raise questions about his overall fitness for office.
The latest exchange underscores how the president’s health remains a major political issue heading into the next phase of the national political debate. While Democratic critics continue to question Trump’s fitness for office, the White House maintains that the president remains in excellent health and fully capable of carrying out the duties of the presidency.
