Another Republican Asks Trump For Job
Former Republican Congressman George Santos has publicly expressed interest in joining President Donald Trump’s administration, offering to become the next White House press secretary following another unexpected staffing change.
Santos, who previously represented New York in the House of Representatives, made his interest known on social media Friday, October 16. Although he acknowledged that he already has a job, he suggested he would gladly accept an opportunity to serve the president.
The announcement comes after Katie Zacharia’s sudden departure from the White House press secretary position, leaving the Trump administration searching for another spokesperson.
Zacharia had only recently taken over the position from Karoline Leavitt. However, her time behind the White House podium lasted just five days, making her tenure the shortest in the history of the position.
Her departure followed growing attention surrounding her first press briefing and questions about her professional qualifications. During her initial appearance, Zacharia appeared nervous and answered questions from only three reporters.
Additional controversy developed after questions surfaced about her legal background, including the fact that she had not passed the bar examination despite previously presenting herself as a lawyer.
President Trump addressed the situation Friday, explaining that he had encouraged Zacharia to reconsider whether the demanding position was right for her. The president also expressed frustration over how she had been treated by members of the news media.
A White House official subsequently confirmed that Zacharia was leaving the press secretary position.
Santos quickly entered the conversation as a possible replacement, although there is no indication that Trump has offered him the job or is considering him for the position.
The former congressman has remained a vocal political figure despite a controversial departure from Washington.
Santos was expelled from the House of Representatives in December 2023 following investigations into his conduct. He later pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges.
After serving approximately three months in federal prison, Santos received a commutation from President Trump in October 2025.
Since leaving Congress, Santos has continued sharing his political opinions publicly, occasionally criticizing prominent conservative media personalities.
He recently took issue with Fox News host Sean Hannity over Hannity’s questioning of Zacharia’s legal credentials during a television interview.
The disagreement continued on social media, where Santos sharply criticized the television host and encouraged others to stop following his account.
The two have previously clashed over Santos’s criminal case and his responsibility to repay money obtained through fraudulent activities.
For the Trump administration, the latest staffing change creates another important decision about who should represent the president before the national press.
The White House press secretary serves as one of the administration’s most visible representatives, answering questions from journalists and communicating the president’s positions on domestic and international issues.
The job requires extensive preparation, detailed knowledge of administration policies, and the ability to respond to challenging questions under intense public scrutiny.
Santos’s willingness to take the position adds an unusual name to the discussion, particularly given his history in Congress and the legal controversies surrounding his political career.
Whether President Trump would seriously consider Santos for such a prominent position remains unknown.
For now, the former Republican lawmaker has made his interest clear, while the White House faces the task of choosing its next chief spokesperson.
