Mayor Cries After Trump Attack
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) pushed back Wednesday after President Trump criticized the city’s growing problems linked to Somali migration—problems many longtime Minnesotans say have transformed neighborhoods and strained public safety.
Frey appeared on CNN to defend his city, calling President Trump’s remarks “not clever” and “not right.” He insisted that Minneapolis is not a “hellhole,” but a “beautiful city,” and repeated talking points that Somali migrants are “uplifting” the community.
But his comments immediately fueled backlash from residents who say the mayor has ignored crime, cultural tensions, and the skyrocketing costs placed on local taxpayers.
Trump Responds: “Well, Then He’s a Fool”
When reporters at the White House mentioned Frey’s praise of the Somali community, President Trump did not mince words. Speaking from the Oval Office, he said:
“Well, then he’s a fool.”
Trump added that he “wouldn’t be proud” to oversee the largest Somali population in America, noting the instability and violence Somalia has faced for decades.
The President warned again that Minnesota is “a hellhole right now,” directly blaming Democrats for allowing policies that have opened the door to mass migration without proper vetting or accountability. He reiterated his long-standing concern that “hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once-great State of Minnesota.”
Growing Concerns About Safety and Immigration Policy
Many Minnesota families, particularly seniors and longtime residents, have voiced alarm about how rapid demographic changes have affected schools, policing, and community stability. Under Democratic leadership, local authorities have repeatedly avoided confronting the issue, even as crime trends continue to draw national attention.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Trump again addressed the topic—calling Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) “garbage” and pointing to the broader failures of America’s current immigration system. Omar, who became a U.S. citizen after fleeing Somalia as a child, has consistently supported policies that expand refugee admissions.
White House: Democrats Enabled a “Radical Migrant Problem”
The White House issued a forceful response to the controversy. Spokesperson Abigail Jackson said:
“President Trump is absolutely right to highlight the problems caused by the radical Somali migrants that Democrats let invade our country and drain American taxpayers.”
Jackson emphasized that the administration will continue shining a spotlight on what it views as out-of-control migration policies harming American communities—especially in the Midwest.
A Debate That Is Only Growing
With Minnesota becoming a flashpoint in the national immigration debate, President Trump’s comments highlight a clash between two very different visions for the country:
- Trump’s call for law, order, and border security, versus
- Democratic leadership defending mass migration despite rising concerns.
For conservative readers age 50+, who value safety, stability, and accountability, this debate isn’t going away—and Minnesota may become the clearest example yet of what happens when leaders ignore the warnings.
