Vance Breaks Silence On Budget Bill
Landmark Trump-Era Bill to Cement Tax Cuts, Border Security, and Energy Independence
Vice President JD Vance says Republicans are closing in on passing President Trump’s landmark One Big, Beautiful Bill Act—a bold legislative package set to define Trump’s second term. The goal: pass it before the July 4 recess.
“This is the president’s signature agenda,” Vance told reporters Tuesday. “And we’re in a good place to get it done.”
Trump’s Second-Term Agenda: Tax Relief, Border Funding, and Energy Expansion
The bill, which narrowly cleared the House last month, now heads to the Senate for final shaping. It would make Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent, provide historic levels of funding for border security and immigration enforcement, strengthen the U.S. military, and boost domestic energy production—all core priorities for the Republican base.
“This is about delivering results for the American people—secure borders, lower taxes, and American energy independence,” Vance said after a closed-door meeting with GOP senators.
Medicaid Reform Draws Debate, But Republicans United on Key Priorities
One area still under discussion is Medicaid reform. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) has voiced concerns over potential reductions to state Medicaid funding mechanisms.
“She’s got some valid concerns, and we’re working through those respectfully,” Vance noted. “That’s how real legislation gets passed—by listening, negotiating, and solving problems.”
Despite a few sticking points, Republicans are united on core principles, especially blocking illegal immigrants and able-bodied individuals who choose not to work from accessing taxpayer-funded Medicaid programs.
“There’s near-total agreement on those provisions,” Vance emphasized.
Mehmet Oz Joins Capitol Hill Meeting as Senate Finalizes Details
As the Senate Finance Committee released updated changes Monday night, including new tax incentives and eligibility standards, CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz joined GOP leaders to offer input on Medicare and Medicaid implementation.
Vance said he left the meeting feeling “gratified and optimistic” about final passage.
Final Push Underway: Republicans Aim to Deliver Before Independence Day
“We’re racing the clock, but we’re focused,” Vance said. “President Trump’s plan is bold, clear, and popular. The American people want this, and we’re going to deliver.”
