Is Trump's NOAA Purge Before Hurricane Season A Good Idea?

Former Biden Staffer Spills All The Beans

A former White House staffer has accused President Biden’s campaign of engaging in a form of “gaslighting” regarding public concerns over his cognitive fitness to serve another term. Michael LaRosa, who served as press secretary for Jill Biden from 2021 to 2022, spoke candidly about the campaign’s response to these concerns. LaRosa’s comments, made during a recent event at American University, were featured by Puck News and highlighted by Mediaite.

LaRosa did not mince words, stating that the campaign’s efforts to dismiss worries over Biden’s age and mental clarity were misleading. He argued that the campaign attempted to downplay polling data indicating public skepticism by claiming that such concerns were irrelevant because the election was still far away. He referred to this tactic as “gaslighting” and noted that the refusal to acknowledge the data from polls and credible journalism was not only dismissive but disrespectful to the American people.

“It’s the denial of the data that bothered me the most,” LaRosa explained. “Polling was always embraced when it worked in our favor, but suddenly it was dismissed when it showed concerns about Biden’s cognitive abilities.” This denial of reality, according to LaRosa, was part of the campaign’s strategy to avoid confronting the growing public doubts about Biden’s fitness for office.

Polling throughout the 2024 campaign season consistently revealed widespread concerns about Biden’s ability to serve another term, with voters questioning his mental sharpness. Although there were also similar concerns about former President Trump’s cognitive health, the doubts about Biden were notably higher. Despite these concerns, Biden and his campaign insisted that he was capable of serving another term and would stay in the race. However, his poor performance during a key debate in June—marked by stumbling over words and struggling to complete sentences—further diminished confidence in his abilities.

As pressure mounted within the Democratic Party for Biden to step aside, the situation became tense. In July, Biden reluctantly bowed to the pressure and allowed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to take his place as the party’s nominee. This shift within the party left some hard feelings and lingering frustrations among Biden’s close allies, who felt that the process had been mishandled.

LaRosa ultimately described Biden’s decision to seek reelection as a miscalculation based on an overestimation of his 2020 victory. He suggested that Biden’s campaign team was fearful of allowing the president to speak off-script or take part in unscripted interviews. LaRosa claimed that it was not Biden himself, but rather his campaign staff, who lacked confidence in their candidate.

The entire episode highlights a growing rift within the party, with many questioning whether Biden’s ability to run for another term is in the nation’s best interest. For many Republicans, these concerns only deepen as they look to 2024 and the possibility of replacing Biden with a candidate more capable of leading the country into the future.
