Republican Issues Warning On GOP
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is sounding the alarm for his fellow Republicans: now is not the time to cave on ObamaCare.
As Democrats demand billions more in government health-care spending during the ongoing federal shutdown, Roy says the GOP must hold the line — and finally go on offense after years of playing defense.
Roy: The Pandemic Is Over — End the ObamaCare Handouts
In a hard-hitting Wall Street Journal op-ed titled “This Is No Time to Go Wobbly on ObamaCare,” Roy said Republicans have waited years for the chance to challenge Democrats’ control of health policy — and they shouldn’t blow it now.
“Should Congress extend the enhanced ObamaCare subsidies that were temporarily created during Covid? The answer is no,” Roy wrote. “The pandemic is over. The American people deserve health-care freedom, not another round of government dependency. Republicans must prove we stand against socialized medicine and for individual choice.”
Democrats Use Shutdown to Push ObamaCare Expansion
The government shutdown began last week after Congress failed to reach a deal on a temporary funding bill. Democrats refused to support the House-passed plan because it didn’t include an extension of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies set to expire in December.
They’re also demanding Medicaid funding be restored after President Trump’s July budget trimmed wasteful spending and redirected funds toward veterans and defense priorities.
Roy says Democrats are trying to use the shutdown to strong-arm Republicans into reviving pandemic-era spending that never should have lasted this long.
Polls Show GOP Voters Split — But the Stakes Are Clear
A new national survey shows a surprising divide among conservatives: while most Republican voters oppose the ACA, a slim majority say they support keeping the temporary subsidies in place.
That’s created fresh pressure inside the GOP to give Democrats what they want — something Roy warns would be a serious mistake.
Pence Aide: Democrats “Bought Off” ObamaCare Support
Marc Short, who served as chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, predicted that some Republicans will ultimately fold under pressure.
“Democrats were shrewd,” Short said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.
“They tied ObamaCare subsidies to the spending bill and bought off insurance companies to protect the system. Now Americans are paying the price — higher costs, fewer options, and total government control.”
Short added that every time Washington expands health-care bureaucracy, premiums skyrocket and choice disappears — a warning that resonates with conservative voters who remember the chaos when ObamaCare was first passed.
Roy’s Final Message: Stand Tall for Freedom
Roy says Republicans can’t afford to “go soft” now — not when Americans are demanding lower prices, more choice, and less federal control.
“The jig is up,” he wrote. “It’s time for Congress to stand firm, end the subsidies, and put Americans back in charge of their own health care.”
For many conservatives, that message couldn’t come at a better time. With Democrats using the shutdown to push another wave of big-government spending, Roy’s call for fiscal sanity and medical freedom could define the next major battle in Washington.
Given that I was unemployed in a difficult economy a year ago, I find it amazing that I can work from home and make a respectable $6k per week. I’m grateful to God for rewarding me with these rules, and now it’s my duty to show and extend anticipatory kindness to others….. https://bitly.cx/eVtS2
