Is Trump Winning On Trade Negotiations Like MAGA Says?

Trump Has A New Mexico Problem

President Trump Acts Swiftly to Shield American Agriculture from Dangerous Livestock Infestation

President Donald J. Trump is once again putting America First—this time by suspending cattle imports from Mexico after a dangerous flesh-eating parasite was detected in cross-border shipments. The Trump administration’s move protects not only U.S. ranchers but also American families from a potential public health disaster.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, a left-wing ally of globalist policies, blasted the 15-day import ban as “unfair.” But U.S. officials say the action is essential to stop the northward spread of a highly invasive and deadly livestock pest: the screwworm.

Screwworm Outbreak Poses Threat to Livestock and Humans

The screwworm, a flesh-burrowing larva of the Cochliomyia hominivorax fly, can infest any warm-blooded animal, including humans. The parasite causes severe wounds, tissue destruction, and, in extreme cases, death.

Mexico’s own health ministry confirmed the first human case of screwworm in April—a 77-year-old woman in the southern state of Chiapas—raising alarm about how far the infestation has already spread.

“The last time this pest entered the United States, it devastated our ranching industry and took 30 years to eradicate,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. “We will not allow that to happen again—not on President Trump’s watch.”

Trump’s America First Policy Defends Food Supply and Public Safety

Under President Trump’s leadership, the USDA acted decisively in late November when the parasite was first detected. While Mexico was given time to establish safeguards, the resurgence of screwworm activity has forced U.S. officials to reinstate the ban as a necessary protective measure.

Despite pressure from Mexico, the Trump administration remains committed to keeping American cattle safe and ensuring that U.S. grocery shelves aren’t exposed to contaminated livestock.

Sheinbaum’s administration has been scrambling to respond—first to Trump’s trade tariffs and now to this suspension—highlighting how critical American economic leverage remains under President Trump’s tough, no-nonsense approach.
