Mayor Vows To Fight Trump
Chicago’s crime epidemic is once again in the national spotlight. President Donald Trump has signaled that the Windy City could be the next target in his law-and-order crackdown, but Chicago’s Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson is moving to block federal intervention.
Johnson Signs Order to Defy Trump
On Saturday, Mayor Johnson signed an executive order called the “Protecting Chicago Initiative.” The order seeks to keep the Chicago Police Department under local control and prevent federal forces, including the National Guard, from operating in the city.
Johnson claims he is defending “constitutional rights” against what he calls “illegal federal overreach.” In his words:
“We will not accept military checkpoints or armored vehicles on our streets. Chicago will resist any unconstitutional occupation.”
Trump: “Chicago’s a Mess”
President Trump didn’t hold back, blasting Johnson as “totally incompetent.” From the White House, he declared that Chicago is in chaos under failed leadership and promised to fix it next, saying the job “won’t even be difficult.”
The President already deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C., where violent crime rates have dropped. Trump has now hinted that Chicago is next in his nationwide effort to restore order.
Chicago’s Ongoing Crime Crisis
Despite city hall’s spin, Chicago remains plagued by shootings, gang violence, and murders. While city officials point to slight declines in recent years, the reality is that thousands of families continue living in fear. For decades, Democrat leadership has failed to get crime under control.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) has joined Johnson in opposing Trump’s plan, but the administration is reportedly considering Naval Station Great Lakes as a staging ground for over 200 Department of Homeland Security agents.
White House Fires Back at Democrats
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson blasted Johnson’s executive order as a political stunt.
“If Democrats focused on fixing crime instead of doing publicity stunts, their communities would be safer,” Jackson said. She also pointed out that Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser in Washington, D.C. praised Trump’s Guard deployment for reducing violent crime.
Law and Order vs. Liberal Chaos
For many Americans, the situation in Chicago is a clear example of failed Democrat leadership versus Trump’s strong law-and-order approach. While liberal mayors protect their political image, President Trump is determined to protect American families.
