Tech billionaire Elon Musk, a key advisor to President Trump, made waves this week with a visit to the National Security Agency (NSA) after calling for a comprehensive “overhaul” of the agency earlier this month. Musk, who has become a leading figure in efforts to realign the federal government with Trump’s vision of efficiency and accountability, met with NSA Director Gen. Timothy Haugh, who also leads U.S. Cyber Command, at the agency’s headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland.
This meeting signals Musk’s continued push to modernize and streamline U.S. government agencies, particularly those involved in national security and cyber defense. The NSA, a critical component of the nation’s intelligence infrastructure, plays a key role in protecting American interests, and Musk’s call for reform reflects his broader stance on government efficiency. According to an NSA spokesperson, the agency is aligning its efforts with the priorities set by President Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Musk’s visit comes at a time when his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is leading efforts to reduce federal bureaucracy and streamline operations across the government. Though not all agencies are experiencing the same level of scrutiny as others, like the Department of Education or Veterans Affairs, even intelligence agencies like the NSA are feeling the effects of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting measures. In a move to reduce personnel, the NSA has offered buyouts to certain workers, according to reports.
